Hello, I'm new to this forum and am extited to learn from some of you pros out there.

So far I haven't found anything posted about the Exceed RC's line of heli's, is this because they're bad or what.
I started out with an Eagle 50 but that didn't go so well then later I bought the Exceed Blazing Star and have really enjoyed this 4 channnel co-axial and have got pretty good flying it so I upgraded to the Blue Ray 450 SE. I'm very impressed with its construction and design. I started out very slow with it but got cocky too soon and crashed it from about 3 ft. Can't believe how much damage can occur with these larger machines.
I'm now replacing the main shaft, tail boom and some other small pieces and hopefully I'll be in business again only with more patience I would guess.

I sure would love to get some advice from you experts. :noteworthy
                                                         Thanks!

This has been a crazy week. Between rebuilds, waiting for parts, online sim sessions and squeezing in a flight here and there, I've been keeping pretty busy. It's been a learning experience too.

The online Phoenix sim sessions are a blast. I just have to remember to turn the volume down in the head set so I don't start yelling. Boy did I hear about that. The good thing is trying to do some new stuff. If nothing else you get better at unusual attitude recoveries. Plus it's a lot of fun flying with your online buddies too. The cool thing is I'm getting better because I'm always trying to learn a new maneuver to stump the other guys with and they are doing the same. Wait until they see what I have in store next.

The Furion rebuild is kind of on hold at the moment. USPS decided to take an extra day with a delivery, so I'll just have to wait. Good news is I had time to work on the Blade 400. Basically the radio and everything came out of B400 to go in the Furion. With the Furion rebuild I'm switching to Hitec 65 servos, so I'm putting the DS287s back in the B400. One thing I found interesting is how well synced the Hitec 65s were synced. I had no swash interactions I had to adjust out.

Here are the new setups:

Furion:
HB65 cyclic/collective
Spartan gyro/ DS3500G tail
Scorpion -8 motor w/ 13T pinion
Phoenix 45 ESC
Radix Blades

Blade 400:
DS287 cyclic/collective
GY401 gyro/DS290G tail
B400 motor w/ 9T pinion
Phoenix 35 ESC
Radix Blades

In the order I have coming I have 2 more batteries for the Gaui 200, an RC Booya Canopy mount for my T600 and an OS bubble less clunk for the tank.

I'm going to try to get everything flying again by this weekend. Weather doesn't look that good for outdoor flying, but there is an indoor fly-in Sunday night. If I can't get in any flying there is always the sim.

Choosing motor and ESC for Trex 450XL

Hi guys,
Im new to Helis, but planning to get a Trex 450 XL HDE kit. Well KX850168TA 430X (3550KV) Brushless motor and 25A Brushless ESC RCE-BL25G are recommended for the 450 XL.
But will switching 3550KV with a 4050KV motor effect anything? As far as i can see, the only difference is current rating.
Actually was planning to add some payload to the heli, so going for the higher KV.
And for the ESC. would it be a problem, if we supply more current than required by the motor?
Please help me out.

This week I put the new elevator lever on my T600NP and test flew it, I finished building an F3P indoor foamie and went to an indoor fly-in.

The elevator lever test was interesting. First of all I could not get the engine to run. Turns out I had fixed a leak in the pipe header and it was 25* colder, so I was way lean. Then the heli was way out of trim, needed 8 clicks of down, to trim it. Worked great once I got it trimmed and the engine running reliably. Being that far out of trim I took it back to the shop to go through the head setup again. Needless to say, it took a bit of tweaking, but I think I got rid of some minor swash interactions.

Next, it was get ready for an indoor fun fly. I had the Gaui 200 ready to go and I got a 3rd battery pack for it. I also built an F3P plane to mess around with. This was a scratch build w/ plans off the Indoor F3P thread on rcgroups. Plus I had the Furion to fly too.

Let's just say the night didn't get off to a great start. Right off the bat on of the 2S 800mAh batts for the 200 comes up missing. In fact I believe someone took it out of my box. Then I had the tail on my Furion explode again and the ensuing crash was pretty impressive. We're talking a $200+ crash with a 450 sized heli. The good news is the Gaui 200 flew great and the F3P plane flew really well. In fact I plan to build a milled out one at about 4oz. Should fly really great.

There's another indoor session next week. The 200 and the F3P plane are ready to go. I'll be getting the Furion fixed this week too. Looks like we have some good weather coming tomorrow or Wed., so I can get the 600NP out and do a little flying with that too. I have the sim too and I've been flying it a lot lately too.

One thing I would really like to do is go to Orlando in Dec. for the fun fly. I have a conflict with a Christmas party for work and I haven't decided what to do yet. Plus I have lots to take care of at home too. All I need is 40 hours a day and 10 days a week.

_*VIDEOS:*_

I'd post vids 1 thru 3 but you're just gonna get bored, all familiarization spool ups. Battery #4 is where things get interesting.

*Out of the box:*

*Battery #4a - hover attempt:*

*Battery #4b - First controlled hover:*

*Battery #6 - Indoor hover*

*Battery #7 - Tail wag issue*

*Battery #9 - Chatting*

Battery #10 - This battery pack I call *Revelation Flight. *

I, more or less, took out all the linkages in the head. Found out that some where snapped half way to cheat alignment. I redone them all. It took some time but in this video, you can see the difference in stability. Plus of course an improvement on my flying ability.Hehe.

I also tweaked the tail for a good alignment, it was a good deal off when I got it.

The tail pitch slider. Now this has got me thinking since the start. Tail servo is binding with half stick RIGHT rudder input OUT OF THE BOX. Buzzing if you go over it. Needless to say, I don't have equal rudder throws. I learned to correct it mechanically, but I got negative tail blade pitch when I center the tail pitch slider on the tail shaft. So I need to set it LEFT of center(viewed from the tail) so I can I achieve positive tail pitch. By the way the tail blade linkages are shortest as they can be.

I've since learned how to use the Limiter on the gyro, that took care of the tail servo binding, but I still don't have equal throws.
I increased Delay to 20 & I think the Gyro setup is optimum now.

Also, the LED mod that I did. I'm so proud of this. I've always wanted my heli to have a light. And it doesn't weigh a thing. Marketing a RTF with a strobing light would be so sensible(hint). Like a beacon, a marker, I think it also serves the purpose to a heli. Just one bright strobe , not a Christmas light set.

Image: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/HandAsolo/Ledpic1.jpg

I still don't have perfect blade tracking, working on it. That's for Battery #11.

Sum it up, this was the first tuning & mod job I did to the heli since I got it, that was like 2 days ago.

See how she fly's.
*Battery #10 - REVELATION FLIGHT!*

*Battery #11 - Night Flying*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsozlZkRpro&feature=related
Nag lakas loob mag palipad sa gabi kase hindi naka lipad ng araw.

*Battery #12 - Spot the Difference*
This battery is a marker, like Mk1 or something. Watch the vid in high quality so you'd see the branches waving behind. Ewan ko ano pumasok sa utak ko, palagay ko lang kaya ko, or just itching to go fly. Na experience ko na tuloy konting downdraft. Ang sarap ng handling. ;D

*Battery #15 - TURNS*
http://www.vimeo.com/1703492
Getting a feel of turns before venturing out flying.

*Battery #16 - ALMOST*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaF7oOYN-JI
I almost crashed on this one, around 1/3rd of the vid, a downwind left turn.

*Battery #17 - I CAN FLY*
It has been 8 days & 6 hours since I got my Moijiah.
Prior to her, I've only had my Lama for a month & a half. I have been doing FMS sim around 20 to 30 minutes a day since.
I only have 2 lipolies that I rotate. Between them I have used 17 batteries.
To date, this is only my 6th day of flying a 6 channel Collective Pitch heli.
The first three batteries were all familiarization spool ups. It's on the fourth battery where I actually "looked" like flying.
So 17 batteries total, minus 3 ground runs = 14 confirmed "flights".
14 flights in the span of 6 days averages around 2.25 flights a day.
I have been busy with her the past few days.

Just today it dawned on me like how it dawned on Tony Stark when he said.. " I can fly".

This video makes it official. Until today, I can now safely say, " I CAN FLY."

*Battery #17 - I CAN FLY!*

*Battery #18a - Clear Blue Skies*

Bagyo jan sa Luzon nitong time na to, dito sa Davao maliwanag at clear.

It's a bit gloomy 30 minutes after though.

*Battery #19 - More Flying*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7GDhwzRx60

Ah yes, someone heckling you while flying.
Here's a good example of messing with your head in the most subtle of ways. A friend can do that.
My latest video just this afternoon.

*Battery #23 - Heckler*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpa5qnZVB_0

I did the Chinese tail weights mod.
First thing I noticed when I gave it a test fly, was a tail wag. I then knew it works.
This is because the gyro sensitivity was too high without the weights. I lessened the gyro gain & she now flies sweet. What happened was the tail servo now works half the load to center the tail blades. The centrifugal force afforded by the weights helps in centering the blades. Overall, I noticed smoother tail control when all things were tuned right.
This mod is so easy, I highly recommend it.

Flight vid for the mod still uploading.

In the meantime, Enjoy my idle up practice in the cool moonlit night. :D
*Battery #24 - Idle Ups*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Bz3L01MZ34

Here it is..

*Battery #25b - Tail Weights Mod maiden flight*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVd9uyfSjXU

Flying in Idle up, dual rates & the tail weights mod.
Just doing more basics but with tighter turns & faster speed. Also more nose in hovers & approaches.
Also did my first 3D move, on the deck pitch pumps.hehe. Super sensitive.

*CRASH #1*

*I finally did it Folks!*

*bent* :(
Image: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/HandAsolo/2008_09160006.jpg

Image: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/HandAsolo/2008_09160007.jpg

*Blades took most of the damage*
Image: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/HandAsolo/2008_09160008.jpg

*Feathering shaft first of many*
Image: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i49/HandAsolo/2008_09160013.jpg

Did a rebuild that took me 20minutes.

Did I tell you NOT to fly indoors? Well I learned it. I got no video to show coz' I wasn't even flying.

It was that fast, first time seeing a crash. One second you're flying, in the blink of an eye, your heli is dead. No more flying.

Good I've got the parts that were damaged.

I guess I've made a full circle, I now know the feeling, it is NOT NICE. I ENGRAVED it in my head not to make the same mistake again. It was all my fault & I exactly know why. It is always AFTER that you feel how stupid & useless that was.

Now I need more parts.

*Battery #27b - POST CRASH 2*
OK. This is after I got too close to our Narra furniture. A stupid crash, but I learned from it. Just a quick hover to check if all is well.

I still don't have perfect blade tracking, working on it. That's for Battery #11.

Sum it up, this was the first tuning & mod job I did to the heli since I got it, that was like 2 days ago.

See how she fly's.
Battery #12 - Spot the Difference
This battery is a marker, like Mk1 or something. Watch the vid in high quality so you'd see the branches waving behind. Ewan ko ano pumasok sa utak ko, palagay ko lang kaya ko, or just itching to go fly. Na experience ko na tuloy konting downdraft. Ang sarap ng handling. ;D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaF7oOYN-JI
I almost crashed on this one, around 1/3rd of the vid, a downwind left turn.

Battery #17 - I CAN FLY

Ah yes, someone heckling you while flying.
Here's a good example of messing with your head in the most subtle of ways. A friend can do that.
My latest video just this afternoon.

Battery #23 - Heckler
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpa5qnZVB_0

Battery #25b - Tail Weights Mod maiden flight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVd9uyfSjXU

Flying in Idle up, dual rates & the tail weights mod.
Just doing more basics but with tighter turns & faster speed. Also more nose in hovers & approaches.
Also did my first 3D move, on the deck pitch pumps.hehe. Super sensitive.

CRASH #1

I finally did it Folks!

Feathering shaft first of many

Battery #27b - POST CRASH 2
OK. This is after I got too close to our Narra furniture. A stupid crash, but I learned from it. Just a quick hover to check if all is well.

Crashed and Resurrected

It had to happen sooner or later because all helis that get flown eventually crash. This time it just happened to be my T600NP. I barely got 2 gallons of fuel through it, so it was still pretty new. Yeah, it was a bad crash too.

Basically, I tried a tail slide, got it too far away and lost orientation in the push out. I thought I might have it saved when it went inverted, but full negative didn't really do anything because it was still kind of sideways. Damage was the blades, flybar, main-shaft, main-shaft bearings, clutch bearings, landing gear, boom, boom supports, torque tube and front TR drive. Worst of all this happened on Thursday and we have no parts support here in Dayton.

With the best weekend for flying were were probably going to get in a long time looming, the real question became how to get it flying by Sunday? The answer, HeliDirect, FedEx Next Day Air and Saturday Delivery. I got the order together on Friday morning, called it in, verified it could be done and placed the order. Parts showed up Sat. morning and I was re-building Sat. night.

Sunday turned out to be a great day for flying. 70* temps and light winds. It took a tank of fuel to get the blades tracking again and it was running pig rich too. However, 6 flights later it was flying pretty well again. Plus I got 4 flights in with the Furion and another with the Gaui 550. Pretty good day.

In fact, I wish I would have taken Monday and Tuesday off this week too. More of the same. Plus, it would have been nice to fly helis for a little while after standing in line to vote for 1.5 hours. Might have to leave work a little early to get in a flight or 2 while there is still daylight.

Looks like the weather is changing this weekend, so I don't know how much more outdoor flying I'll get in for a while. I'm thinking of going to the Orlando fun fly in Dec. That might be the last of the outdoor stuff for a while.

Got bored the other day so I ordered a Blade mCX bind-n-fly from ReadyHeli...

Very cool little bird! I am having a blast flying it around the house tormenting our little chihuahua

I am amazed at the stability of this little guy and love using my DX7 as the radio.

I just need to get a couple more battery packs so when the NW rains set in I will have something to fly around indoors.

Cheers,
Allen

The days are getting much shorter and the weather is cold and windy. Not as many good days left to fly. No doubt there will be good days here and there, but, for the most part, flying outdoors around here is winding down.

So, time to get the indoor stuff ready. Actually, heli wise, I don't have that much to do. The Gaui 200 is ready and waiting to go. I can throw the Blade 400 back together in an evening. The biggest remaining task is building a couple foamies. Fortunately, that doesn't take too long either. The first indoor session is Nov 9, so there isn't that much time to get ready. But, it's enough if I get started now.

Also, I'm looking hard at going to the Tangerine in Orlando. If I do that I can take the helis and golf clubs. Fly a couple of days and play golf one afternoon. I have a course I can play down there for $25 w/ a cart. for some reason the family doesn't want to go with me. Probably because the only time they would see me is at night when I'm about to crash.

Other than that, it's time to layout plans for next year. I'd like to get a 90 nitro and replace the Gaui 550 with something smaller, Trex 500 sized. I have a line on a YS .91, so I can start accumulating parts. That, and I start need to arrange a fuel buy in the spring.

Ski season will be starting soon too. I didn't get to ski last winter because of my cervical fusion operation. I should be able to resume that activity this year. I'm looking forward to tuning the skis and getting ready.

Anyway, lots to do over the Winter and lots to plan for in the Spring.

Now to Get Everything Flying Again

The T600n is flying and has had over a gallon of fuel through it. The Furion is sorted out and seems to be flying pretty good. I changed to the 550 blades and long boom on the Gaui 550 and made it way better than I thought. About the only thing left to do is get the Blade 400 back together and flying again. So no, it's just a matter of tweaking.

I have some upgrades coming for the T600n. First I've noted the plastic blade grips have some movement around the bearings, so I have a set of the CNC grips coming. I also picked up a 440 flybar and a set of CF paddles so I can speed up the head a little. Lastly I have a DS890G servo coming for the throttle. The S3050 I'm running just isn't quite fast enough. An S9252 would probably be OK, but I couldn't find one at the LHS, so the 890G seemed like a cheaper solution.

The Furion is starting to really com into it's own. The cyclic on this heli is really fast and it's a hoot to fly now that I seem to have all the vibrations worked out of it. This heli is a little hot rod.

The big surprise was the Gaui 550. I had figured I had pretty much reached the end of the line with this heli because every time I added more power, it blew the gears out of it. Well, changing to the 550 blades from the 500s, putting the long boom, running a more powerful motor and reducing the head speed by 100 rpm has found a better sweet spot. I had to move the mixing arm links to the inner hole on the seesaw to speed up the head and I also think a longer flybar would help there too. It's way better, like an order of magnitude.

Even with all the changes, my Gaui 550 is so far removed from what it is advertised. A stock 550 running 2200 6S, a mild motor and low head speed might get 4:00-5:00 flight times, it is, IMHO, in no way serious 3D capable. My 550 is pretty good, but I'm running 3700mAh to get 4:00 flight times, or 3:00 or really hard 3D. Basically, I've spent a lot of time and money experimenting to get the 550 as good as a Trex 500 is out of the box. Plus, with the setup I'm running, the cost is approaching a T600e. At that point I'm going to be running a nitro heli.

Lastly, The Gaui 200 is sorted out and flying. It's just waiting for indoor season.

I'm going to have to get a pic with all 6 helis lined up.
